There’s no place like home! Click your mouse 3 times and you can have air flight, hotel and rent-a-car.  The Christmas season brings peace on earth and encourages family and friends to cherish togetherness, it truly is the most wonderful time of year.

This Christmas, seems to have a more urgent heir in the air, to be more caring for one another.  You can probably trace that feeling to the internet and in general our access to advanced technology.

This year more than any past year we can go home for Christmas by video.

Somewhere over the internet families will great each other on-screen.

It’s not the same as being there but I would love to talk to my mom on Christmas day and we both can see each others face while we talk.

The Internet can never replace the smells of the kitchen and the touch of loved ones.  The Internet can’t replace sitting in your favorite spot at the table or the couch.  It can connect you in a great way, when life and times keep you from physically going home for Christmas.

Maybe Grandma and Grandpa don’t have internet access; by the way getting them connected is a great gift, but you can Skype me from their house.

No one should be left out of the technology age, no matter their age. The gift of giving this year should include connectivity to enhanced communication and information.

One topic of the family holiday dinner could be, who really understands how to incorporate today’s technology into practical use by the entire family?  While we are at it, who has made money using the internet and who has changed their life by accessing information.

The cute days of dad trying to program the VCR should give way to the entire family being technically savvy.  Take an informal Internet knowledge survey of family members,  go beyond Smartphone access of e-mail or status updates on social media.

Get your home hooked in to city government and find out what policies have a direct impact on your household such as property tax, and homeowner advantage programs.  Ask the question, are we as a family upgrading our lives to the best of what’s available in the technology?

Alright! everybody pull out all your technology toys and do an inventory of what you have at your fingertips.

A great series of questions this year could include: what did you buy online? did you get the most savings possible? and did you get free shipping?

This year as a coach would say to a football team, let’s not leave any plays on the field or in this case at the dinner table.  Somewhere over the Internet families are upgrading their quality of life, if you’re not in the game, get in the game.

2012 is here, don’t just give Grandma a flat screen TV, be able to explain the differences.  If you do not have the time or know how to teach Grandpa how to use the internet and social media then find someone who can.

If you don’t know someone who can teach this skill, use google search to research your surroundings.   This would also be a great time to search your family name and any businesses you may have.

I am sure someone used a GPS device to find their way to the house, explain that it is not magic but technology that makes the ground position satellite work.

This is not a soapbox I’m metaphorically standing on, it’s the punchline to the title of this blog.

Home is where the heart is, for this Christmas, let’s fortify our homes and our loved ones by upgrading the family internet experience.  I am excited about Internet possibilities as we move further into the 2000’s, as I said 12 years ago.

Be inspired, this is not a Mission Impossible.  We are capable in these days to establish standards that will stand the test of time.

Families seize the moment, it can be done.  I’ve seen it with my own eyes in a city I visited and wrote about called Peachtree City, Georgia.

Whole families are partaking in the uniqueness of their surroundings and adapting to the opportunity created by family pioneers.  This community grabbed the future by the horns and progressed into an entirely different way of life.

This is not Whoville, add Peachtree City to your research list and add it to your places to visit list.  If you don’t’ have a list make a list and check it twice, don’t be a Scrooge or allow the Grinch to steal this Christmas wish from your home.

And a child shall lead them, is not just a biblical reference or a cliché.

If you ask!  every family will have a game-pro video kid and some youngster who is a computer whiz.

Information is keen and research we must, for the world awaits and it weight that busts, the wheels of the wagon, the family trusts.

That’s my best parody of a Dr. Seuss rhyme and this really is story time.

The things I have said and written, give tell to the way I feel about Christmas!
